Fishery: 10 investment portfolios are offered for fish aquaculture projects

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture offered ten investment portfolios for the aquaculture projects by using floating cages system in the Red Sea and establishing six ports in Fursan, Madaya, Al Aziziyah, Al Rayes, Al Qatif and Al Zour inviting the private sector to invest in them.
The undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture Eng. Ahmed Alayada said to Al Eqtisadiah Newspaper that the Ministry assigned Consulting Office to offer the investment portfolios besides the establishment of new giant company for aquaculture with a capacity that reaches to 45 thousand ton.
Eng. Alayada revealed that there is a package of developments which the marine fisheries sector will witness. The first one will be launching 20 electronic services for the fishermen including the method of payment in addition to securing and installation the automatic identification system (AIS) for 1500 boats in the Red Sea, explaining that the first phase will be in Jizan and Aseer and it will be compeleted in other regions such as Makkah Al Mukarama, Al Madina Al Monawara  and  Tabouk in a short time. Eng. Alayada announced the updating of the executive regulation of fishing, investment and protection of aquatic resources in the regional water as well as encouraging the investment in the field of fishing, collecting jellyfishes and shellfishes in coordination with the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) in addition to increase the investment in the fisheries of the sellers in the Red Sea. Moreover assigning one of the security companies to provide security guarding for the fishing ports and other sites. Furthermore completing the installation of 2500 automatic tracking devices and operating automatic identification system (AIS) for the boats of the fishermen in the Arabian Gulf, mentioning that the fees related to the usage of the fishing boats, the picnic boats and violations will be updated, approved and issued in a way that support the settlement of the profession. 
He indicated to the activation of the role of the Fishermen Cooperative Societies, increasing their number and members to develop their work to apply the best global fishing practices, settlement the fishing profession and finding job opportunities in the field of the supporting services for the fishing activities and after fishing. In addition to follow up the impacts resulting from the new organizations for the fishing operations that use the picnic boats which will positively reflect to increase joining the Saudi citizens to the profession . He assured receiving the first report prepared about the usage of fishing nets “Alshanshola“ – one of the fishing way by using of the  chasing in cooperation with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology which will positively reflect on finding new job opportunities as well as the usage of bottom trawling nets  and trap fishing in the Red Sea which have organizational aspect. He explained that the Ministry is seeking to remove the damaged boats and numbering the fishing boats in coordination with the Ministry of Transportation as well as starting preparation of developing program to manage the regional fisheries in coordination with one of the Saudi Universities.
He added that an independent initiative will be launched to separate the fish market and find a justice system for the marketing. Moreover the final study which performed on the fish storage in cooperation with the King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals will be received to check its judgment “the study will be assessed by the third party” in a short time.
