MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE LAUNCHES NEW DOCUMENTARY ABOUT NATIONAL AQUACULTURE IN SAUDI ARABIA

The film is considered the first of a kind as it aims to identify and define the significance of aquaculture and its role in contribution to achievement of food security in Saudi Arabia

MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE LAUNCHES NEW DOCUMENTARY ABOUT NATIONAL AQUACULTURE IN SAUDI ARABIA

In cooperation with mass media entities in Saudi Arabia, Ministry of Agriculture has launched a documentary about aquaculture.

The film is intended to demonstrate a number of outstanding projects in this sector; and clearly promote and marketing significance of marine and sea food and its necessity for Saudi Consumer thanks to its high health value.

This comes within the frame of efforts exerted by the Ministry to upgrade average consumption of Saudi citizen to fish products from 10Kg/year to the international average estimated at 20 Kg.

Fish Resources in Saudi Arabia produces 90,000 ton – 75% of production comes from aquacultures, while the outstanding 25% is produced by fisheries.

Specific features and characteristics entertained by Saudi Arabia have been highlighted. That would contribute to large expansion of this sector such as having large beach areas looking over both the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf; and available proper weather conditions; reduction of costs of power; in addition to easy access to domestic and international markets.

The role played by Ministry of Agriculture alongside with government-provided support has been also highlighted. This came within the frame of a speech delivered by HE Deputy Ministry for Fish Resources Affairs, Eng. Jabir Al-Shehri.

During the speech, Al-Shehri asserted that the support provided to the sector of aquaculture comes within the frame of the policies adopted by Saudi Government in terms of achievement of food security in Saudi Arabia, through the national comprehensive strategy proposed to develop and upgrade the sector of Fish Resources in Saudi Arabia (the 7th Initiative) launched by Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with Agricultural Development Fund towards reaching to annual production of One (1) Million ton by 2029.

The Documentary has also witnessed a meeting with HE Engineer Ahmed Al-Balaa’, CEO of National Aquaculture Group, and Chairman of the Board of Saudi Aquaculture Association.

In addition, a meeting has been held with investor, Abdullah Al-Faris, off Caviar House Project Establishment. The documentary has demonstrated an overview about a number of important projects in Saudi Arabia such as the National Aquaculture Group, Tabuk Fish Company, Caviar House Project, and Maram Project for Ornamental Fish.
